Howdy Howdy!
I hope you week was great. Our week
was AWESOME! Of course, I'm serving a mission haha. Every week is
great! And first of all Gramps looks great, I bet he could be every
single one of us in a roping competition haha. He's still got it! It was
great to hear from everyone, your emails are great and I wish I had
more time to respond to your emails but there just isn't time to give
long responses. This week was great, and we got some good "wild life"
pictures I am sure you will enjoy!
So to explain the pictures. That spider was just a "little
guy" it was about 4 inches like the one the other week but that is again
"little." At least for the philippines. It was about four feet away
from my bed on the wall, about head level where you would lay... we love
it here! Haha anyway we took care of him so now we don't have to worry
about them. . . yeah right.
Also do you like my hat? I have been looking for a "Barangay
Capitan Hat" for my whole mission and I finally found one, and bought
it, with Elder Vogelsberg. It is awesome. So we had a ward service
project and I showed up with an itak (machete) on my waist and a
Barangay Captain Hat and they all thought that was pretty funny. They
would yell, "Oh no the police are here haha." Every Barangay
(neighborhood) has there own captains and they all wear these hats. They
thought it was pretty funny to see a "joe" in that hat. But we had a
great service project, and of course, great food. We wouldn't be Mormons
if we didn't have good food close around haha.
During the service project we found a few frogs at the church,
they are all over this country we see multiple everyday and Elder
Villamor caught one. So yeah, fun stuff.
There was one
wildlife I was not able to capture on camera... I saw a cobra in the
rice fields about 2 feet away from my feet, it wasn't very big and it
scattered pretty fast but it scared the pants off of me! I almost yelled
a choice word Gramps would say but all that came out of my mouth was
"Pambihira!" basically "Holy Smokes!" I want to eat cobra before I go
home but I hope one doesn't eat me first haha.
But our work is going great. I do have a favor to ask of Aunt
Tonna though. We have a less active here who needs some help and I am
hoping she could give us some inspiration. My first day in Ocampo we
were called to there house, her husband was extremely sick and in a
minor seizure (sp?) and we gave him a blessing. The next day that Tatay
passed away and left Nanay and the kids. They live in a small bamboo hut
with not much to call there own and it's pretty hard for her to go to
church. She feel very alone, and it is sad every time we go. I have shed
a few tears with that Nanay and she always wants me to "tell her
stories" haha. I would love to hear from you Aunt Tonna, if you are
willing, about how the Gospel has helped you. And anything you think my
help Nanay. I realize that might be hard but it would mean a lot thank
you. I pray for you often and I can't wait to give my Aunt Tonna a big
old hug when I go home, especially if there is Davinity waiting haha
just kidding!
Also our area is progressing and we are finding a lot of
success and miracles. We had a cool story told to us by one of our
investigators about how he lived back when the Japanese still had
control of the Philippines and that one day he was sent, from the
school, to go get help from the Japanese camp. There was a problem at
the school and the teacher sent him to get help. Apparently they had
already killed a few people and philippinos for the most part were
scarred of them, this is what Tatay told us anyway. Anyway he started
running to the camp of the Japanese, he was very young he said. And he
said while he was running that he heard a voice in his head and a
feeling in his heart that said, "STOP! Don't go to the Japanese" He said
it stopped him dead in his tracts and followed it's council. He said he
has waited his whole life to have that kind of feeling again. He said,
"I want to go back and experience it again." How powerful is the Holy
Ghost and how lucky we are to have it "as our constant companion." It is
a guide in this life to safety and happiness and TRUTH! We are lucky.
But we must be clean to have it dwell with us always. I hope to have
that Tatay feel, "that same feeling" again, but this time it will
witness that what we are sharing to him is truth.
Now, no time. Haha we are busy. We have a Barangay Home
Evening in about 2 hours and we seem to be the ones running the show
haha. It should be great and hopefully we will meet a few less active
and see if we can't help them remember their testimonies of the Restored
Gospel of Jesus Christ. I love you all and I pray for you daily. I'm
praying for rain your way too, I heard it is dry. Love you, miss you and
pray for you. We skype soon! Ingat palagi at padagos lang!
Elder Davis
P.S. I know you are wondering Mom, "Did you
eat that bug Chantz?" The answer is "Whatever you want to believe Mom,
love ya a bushel!"
